Our onboarding processes

CREATORS

We have processes in place to ensure that all Website Creators: (i) are at least 18 years of age; and (ii) verify their identity. Before you can create a Creator Account, we:

  • Ask you to provide the creator user data, as indicated in Section 9 ( categories of personal data ).
  • Check your country of residence. This check is intended to ensure legitimate access to the Site and Services.
  • Ask you to provide financial data, as set out in Section 9 ( Categories of Personal Data ). This is necessary so that payments can be made to Creators for content and so that Creators can access their earnings through the website. Financial data is also collected as a verification and anti-fraud measure.
  • Ask you to go through a third-party age and identity verification process:
    • This process involves our third-party vendor collecting a short .gif file, taken from a “selfie” and a photo from a government ID (in both cases, provided by you to the third-party vendor). The third-party vendor then uses facial recognition data to match the two images so they can digitally verify your age and identity.
    • As described in Section 9 ( Categories of Personal Data ), we do not collect, receive, own or have access to the facial recognition data collected or processed by our third-party providers through this process.
    • Where permitted by applicable law, we receive from our third-party providers Third-Party Onboarding Data and certain Technical Data, as set out in Section 9 ( Categories of Personal Data ), to track the age and identity verification process.
  • Please verify that you have not been previously banned from using the website and our services (for example due to violation of our Terms of Service ).

Fan

We have processes in place to ensure that: (i) all Fans on the Website are at least 13 years of age; and (ii) Fans in certain locations verify their identity. Before you can create a Fan account, we:

  • Ask you to provide Fan User Data, as set out in Section 9 ( categories of personal data ).
  • Check your country of residence. This check is intended to ensure legitimate access to the Site and Services.
  • Ask you to provide financial data, as set out in Section 9 ( Categories of Personal Data ). This is necessary so that fans can make payments to creators. Financial data is also collected as a verification and anti-fraud measure.
  • Ask to go through a third-party process to get assurances about your age. The specific process will depend on your location and the third-party provider. This may include:
    • Third-party age and identity verification
    • For some locations, we are required to verify the age and identity of our fans, so we have to take additional steps. This process involves our third-party vendor collecting a short .gif file, taken from a “selfie” and a photo from a government ID (in both cases, provided by you to the third-party vendor). The third-party vendor then uses facial recognition data to match the two images so they can digitally verify your age and identity.
    • As indicated in Section 9 ( categories of personal data ), we do not collect, receive, own or have access to this data.
    • Where permitted by applicable law, we may receive from our third-party providers Third Party Onboarding Data and certain Technical Data, as set out in Section 9 ( Categories of Personal Data ), to track the age and identity verification process.
    • Third-party age estimation
    • For some locations, we use third-party providers to perform age estimation. This process involves our third-party provider collecting a short "selfie" .gif (which you provide to the third-party provider) and using digital technology to estimate your age, which may involve the use of facial recognition data.
    • If you follow the third-party age estimation process, we will only receive the results of the process (pass/fail and reason for failure), to keep a record of the age estimation process.
    • If you do not pass the third-party age estimation process (for example, if you are over 18, but their technology has predicted that you appear under 18), you may have the option to go through the third-party age and identity verification process above.

How/why your personal data is used and legal bases of processing

We process personal data for, or on the basis of, one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Consent: Your consent is only required in specific circumstances, including, for example, the processing of: (i) Facial Recognition Data by our third-party providers as part of the age and identity verification process for all Creators (and for Fans in certain locations); and (ii) age estimation acquisitions (which may involve the use of facial recognition data) by our third-party providers for Fans in certain locations. For more information, see Section 10 ( Our Onboarding Processes ), above.
  • Performance of a contract: By using the Services, you have entered into a contract with us through our Terms of Service , and we will process personal data to perform that contract (for example, to fulfill transactions between Fans and Creators and process Creator earnings) and to enforce the terms of that contract.
  • Legitimate Interests: We may process personal data if it is in our or a third party's legitimate interests (as detailed in the table below). This includes, for example, investigating and responding to a report made through our DMCA takedown procedure to protect a Creator's intellectual property rights.
  • Compliance with legal obligations: As a global company, we may process personal data to comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations in the locations where we operate.
  • Task carried out in the public interest: We may process personal data if it is necessary for a task carried out in the public interest. This may include, for example, reporting illegal activities to competent law enforcement authorities, other government agencies and non-governmental organisations.

We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose.

Sharing your personal data

We share personal data with the following categories of third parties:

  • Our third party service providers: such as our IT service providers, payment processing, customer support, content and text moderation, and age and identity verification/age estimation. The legal basis we rely on to share personal data with these recipients is that it is necessary for our legitimate interests (i.e. receiving services to support business functionality).
  • Our professional advisers: such as our legal advisers, bankers, auditors, accountants, consultants and insurers. Our professional advisers will process personal data to the extent necessary to provide their services to us. The legal basis we rely on to share personal data with these recipients is that it is necessary for our legitimate interests (namely receiving professional services).
  • Companies: relevant third parties in the event of a possible sale, merger, acquisition, corporate reorganisation or group restructuring exercise. The legal basis on which we rely to share personal data with these recipients is that it is necessary for our legitimate interests and those of the third parties concerned (namely to evaluate and implement potential transactions).
  • Our Group Companies: For the coordination and centralized management of our business, in accordance with the purposes set out in Section 9 ( Categories of Personal Data ). These recipients will process personal data in the same way as set out in this Notice. The legal basis we rely on to share personal data with these recipients is that it is necessary for our legitimate interests (namely, coordinating the global operations of our business).
  • Authorities, regulators and competent organisations: in response to requests from government authorities (including law enforcement and tax authorities), regulators and certain non-governmental organisations (such as the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC)). These recipients will use your personal data in the exercise of their regulatory, law enforcement or otherwise charitable or non-profit role. The legal basis we rely on to share personal data with these recipients is that the processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject, or necessary for our legitimate interests or those of a third party, or where it is in the wider public interest to do so (namely reporting illegal content and assisting with requests from such authorities, regulators and organisations, to protect the safety of our users and third parties).

Messaging and Meeting Section

How safe is Calliverse?

Calliverse is more secure than mass messaging apps like WhatsApp and Line. It is built using long-tested algorithms to make security compatible with great speed and reliability. We are constantly working to improve the security of our protocol and clients.

What if I were more paranoid than traditional users?

Calliverse uses end-to-end encryption, leaving no traces on our servers.

Q: So how do you encrypt the data?

We support two levels of encryption. Server-client encryption which is used in Cloud Chats (private and group chats). All data, regardless of type, is encrypted in the same way, whether it is text, media or files. Our encryption is based on symmetric 256-bit AES encryption, RSA 2048 encryption, and secure key exchange.

Calliverse protect me against anything?

Calliverse can help when working on data exchange and secure communications. This means that all data (including media and files) that you send and receive on Calliverse cannot be decrypted when intercepted by your ISP, network administrator and other third parties. However, remember that we can't protect you if your mother takes your unlocked phone without a lock code. Or if your IT department accesses your computer at work. Or if someone has physical or root access to your phone or computer using Calliverse.

Can I call with Calliverse?

Yes! You can make Voice Calls Video Calls and Meetings protected with end-to-end encryption. If you want more participants, try starting a Voice Chat in one of the groups you’ve created. Voice chats add a lively layer to the discussion. They can be used as virtual offices for work teams or as informal lounges for any community. While voice chats aren’t group calls, they can achieve similar goals.

Can I delete my messages?

Yes. You can always delete all messages you have sent or received in an individual chat (in groups, you can only delete your own messages). You can also delete the entire chat history on both sides. On Calliverse, deleted messages leave no trace in the chat.

How do I know who among my contacts has Calliverse?

Contacts who have Calliverse appear at the top of your Contacts. They also have photos.

How can I invite my friends?

iOS: The default invite uses SMS. They will be charged as your carrier's standard SMS (except those sent via iMessage). Of course, you have other ways to get your friends here. Try sending them the download link via other messaging services: email, Facebook, WhatsApp. Android: Open the app menu (swipe right in the chat list) > Invite Friends. Then choose an app to use to send invitations.

Who can contact me?

People can contact you on Calliverse if they know your phone number or if you send them a message first. If they don't know your phone number, they can find you in these cases: When you are both members of the same group. If you set a public username. Others will be able to use Global Search and find you by username.

Do you execute data requests?

Chats use end-to-end encryption, so we don't have any data to disclose. To protect data that is not covered by end-to-end encryption (Social), Calliverse uses a distributed infrastructure. Cloud chat data is stored in multiple data centers around the globe, controlled by different legal entities that are in turn distributed under different jurisdictions. The corresponding decryption keys are split into parts and are never kept together with the data they protect. As a result, it takes multiple court orders from different jurisdictions to force us to hand over any data. With this structure, we can ensure that no government or group of like-minded governments can impede people’s privacy and freedom of expression. Calliverse can only be forced to release data if an issue is serious and universal enough to pass the scrutiny of multiple legal systems around the world. To date, we have disclosed 0 bytes of user messages to third parties, including governments.
